Bases: hydroxide chemistry from lab reagents to industry

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) are strong bases from the chlor-alkali family of chemistry. Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) is slaked lime—central to mortar and water treatment. Ammonia (NH₃) is a weak base whose conjugate acid NH₄⁺ appears in ammonium chloride. Accurate molar masses matter when preparing standard bases and when back-titrating with primary standards such as KHP.

Link NaOH to the chlor-alkali process with NaCl, and compare NaOH vs KOH solubility and soap chemistry.
